About this activity

Would you like to play a kids’ counting game? Funny statistics is a great activity which will challenge your thinking and social skills while you play.

Required material
  • Different coloured LEGO® bricks
  • Or any other similar-sized stackable objects

Instructions

1

Decide what you would like to categorize and count. It can be anything you like – how many forks, knives and spoons in the house, for example.

2

Count the number of items you have in each category, for example how many forks you have.

3

Give each of your categories a brick colour, for example red for forks, blue for knives and green for spoons.

4

Using the coloured bricks, build a bar chart to represent each category, so if you have eight knives, build a bar that is eight bricks high.

5

Now sort your bar chart according to which category is biggest/ which bar is highest and discuss what you found as a group.

How was this activity?

Too easy?

Once you’ve built your LEGO bar chart, draw it on paper. See if you can come up with other ways of presenting your findings.

Too hard?

Just count the number of items in each category, rather than building a bar chart, or you could write the number on bricks rather than counting them.
